The fifth stage of the Ligue des Opens more-sport took place at the Centre Nautique Pierre de Coubertin in Clermont-Ferrand on 14 and 15 February. Let’s review this last 6 vs 6 stage before Sarcelles.
Group A
Defence is the best attack ! With only two goals conceded in the whole competition, Fontenay has disgusted its opponents. Only Dinan, twice, managed to break the CSMB fortress. Third of the group A at the end of the first day, Fontenay was unbeatable against the Masters in the quarter-finals before winning in an epic match against Dinan in the semi-finals with a goal from Hervé Thaurus in golden goal. In the other semi-final, the other two members of the Fantastic Four, Moirans and Rennes. There was less suspense with a comfortable 3-0 victory for Rennes. Saturday’s match between Bretons and Franciliens had been extremely close with Fontenay winning 1-0. For this final, the score opened up quickly with a Fontenay goal after two minutes of play followed by a second a few moments later by Adrien Lejosne. Two goals against Fontenay, it was too much for Rennes to overcome. The third place match was a rematch of the Round 1 final between Dinan and Moirans. It was the winners of the La Rochelle leg who won by a large margin, 6-0. Thanks to its fifth place, Pessac keeps its leader position in the general ranking with a one point lead over Rennes.

Group B
In a group as consistent as ever, Ndead, a team composed of a large majority of Clermont players, won. The almost-locals beat the newcomers of the group B, Clamart, in the final (3-2) at the end of a match where the Clamartois have, ironically, lacked efficiency. Ndead took advantage of the situation to take the lead in the general ranking of group B. The young team of Vulcains finishes on the podium. With a squad composed of players from Le Puy-en-Velay and young members of the French youth team, Vulcains beat the French Elite women’s team with a spectacular score of 4-3. A disappointing result for Jacques Bréchaire’s players who lost twice in sudden death : in the semi-final against Clamart (2-1) and against Vulcains in the match for third place. The Hyerois, winners of the La Rochelle leg, could not do better than 5th in this competition which they played with only seven players.
