It was the main priority of Nicolas Legeay and Olivier Flandrin, and it is now official. The French Elite men’s team will hold its first training camp on the weekend of 19-20 March 2022 in Sarcelles.
In a letter sent to all the Elite players of the previous championships, to the D1 clubs and to the regions, the new coaches of the Elite M have announced the programme and the events to come. The first step is the training camp in Sarcelles at the end of March. With the European Championships coming up in July, the French team coaches intend to overcome the preparation deficit with this training camp « open to all players with the intention and goal of joining the French Elite Men’s Team« .
In order to guarantee the seriousness and physical abilities of their future players, the coaches are imposing certain conditions: to be able to do 350 metres in the apnea test in 7 minutes and 920 metres in the swimming test in 12 minutes. « We think that if you want to prepare something in July, you have to be at that level in March. The French team is not just about playing, it’s also about physical fitness » says Nicolas Legeay.
As the coaches told us a few weeks ago, the French Elite men’s team will enter two teams in the fourth stage of the French Open League in Saint-Malo, scheduled for one to two weeks after the camp. A very quick integration in perspective for the newcomers and for the coaches, the opportunity to start their adventure at the head of the team on a « blank page ».
