Montluçon, France – The second stage of the More-Sport Opens League (LOP) was a big success this past weekend (December 6 and 7) in Montluçon. For the first time in this pool, the event was a great triumph, once again showing the LOP’s special place in the world of underwater hockey.
Top-Notch Organization
The organization was very impressive and efficient, setting up three game pools, which is the first time this has happened in our sport. One pool was filmed non-stop, allowing everyone to follow the action and catch every key moment. The 2v2 challenge was also memorable, including a surprise moment where the U19F coach was tricked by the organizers into playing with one of her U19F players.
Even though the LOP is not an official competition, it is still the largest underwater hockey competition in terms of players, bringing together 7 teams in Pool A, 13 in Pool B, and 9 in Pool C this time. While there is no official ‘title,’ the event’s importance is clear.
Pool A: Fontenay Wins, The Next Generation Shines
Pool A saw some tough battles. Fontenay made a strong comeback after a first stage where they almost didn’t make the podium. The club beat Dinan (2-1) to take first place in this stage.
The « Relève Homme » (U24M) team, who are being tested for the 2026 World Championships, caused an upset by beating Dinan 2-0 on Saturday, showing the talent of this new generation. Meanwhile, Moirans is now behind Pontoise in the overall (temporary) standings.
Stage 2 Standings (Pool A):
Fontenay
Dinan
Pessac
Pontoise
Moirans
Relève Homme
La Rochelle
Pool B: Lagny Wins Against Nantes
Pool B was packed with 13 teams split into two groups, offering plenty of excitement and surprises. Lagny finally took the top spot after winning a close final against Nantes (1-0).
Les Sirènes Argentées (The Silver Sirens), which is the French Elite Women’s team, are in 7th place in the temporary standings. Because the level of hockey and fitness in Pool B is getting better every year, the competition is becoming similar to a high-level D1 Group B stage, which makes things harder for the Elite team.
Stage 2 Standings (Pool B):
Lagny
Nantes
Ermont
Les Alchimistes
Okéanos
Vulcains
Les Sirènes Argentées

Pool C: Master F Show Their Experience
Pool C, which included the young women’s teams, was watched closely. Experience won the day: the Master F team won the pool with great skill and fighting spirit, especially against the young, unofficial French National Team. The U24F team lost 3-0 to Master F, but the main goal for these young teams in this stage is to learn and build teamwork.
Stage 2 Standings (Pool C):
Master F
U24F
Tentacools
Fontenay & CO
Les Bleuettes
Diderot 12 Asnières
Pessac F

Looking Beyond Borders
The success of this second stage in Montluçon shows that the 5th season of the More-Sport Opens League continues to make history. Even though it’s not an official event, the LOP is vital for French underwater hockey. And the League’s influence is growing beyond France: two Turkish players have shown interest in bringing one of their teams to compete next year. The Opens League is proving its importance as a driving force and a meeting point for international underwater hockey.
