While the official start of the national season isn’t until November, the French underwater hockey community is already turning its attention to the new edition of the More-Sport Opens League, which celebrates its 5th anniversary this year.

Before we talk about this year and the new features of the LOP, let’s look back at previous seasons. Over the years, the Opens League has become the major event for the best French teams. Much more than just a competition, the More-Sport Opens League is now the only underwater hockey circuit in the world. The history of its podiums shows a constantly evolving hierarchy, where the consistency of some teams meets the hunger for victory of others.

Pool A

The recent history of Pool A is one where the title has changed hands multiple times. The 2022-2023 season saw Fontenay win, securing first place ahead of the perennial contender Dinan and Moirans. The following year, in 2023-2024, the top of the podium changed with Roazhon taking the victory. Dinan and Fontenay were once again ranked among the top three. Finally, the 2024-2025 season saw a new champion: Pessac, after a steady rise over three years, won the league for the first time.

Pool B

Pool B has also seen its title change hands each season. In 2022-2023, the Elite F team won the final victory. The following season, in 2023-2024, the top of the standings was occupied by Ermont. Finally, the 2024-2025 season saw Babys Team win and take first place.

Pool C

Pool C has also had different winners in recent years. In 2022-2023, the Baby Girls won the pool. The following year, in 2023-2024U24 FRANCE was victorious. More recently, in 2024-2025Moirans dominated their pool to win the final victory.

This is an unofficial tournament, of course, but over the years it has become the biggest event for the sport in France. And to celebrate its 5th anniversary, it’s time for some new features.

As every year, there are 5 stages planned before the grand finale in Lutèce. On this side, two changes are to be noted. Le Puy-en-Velay is making way for the next generation, with a unique 100% youth stage (U19 and U24). In addition, the T2T stage in La Rochelle is being relocated for this year. According to our information, this 3rd stage could take place in Limoges (information to be confirmed). The Tournoi des Arvernes in Clermont-Ferrand will also feature a new addition: the appearance of a Pool D, called « Hors Ligue » (D3/D4 level). Places are limited; only 8 teams will have the opportunity to inaugurate this first Pool D.

The new features don’t stop with the organization of the stages. For an experience worthy of the biggest sports, the entire tournament will now be filmed. The public will be able to follow all the matches from all the fields.

Also, so that the victories remain unforgettable, the names of the champion teams are engraved on the trophies. Of course, as every year, official « league » referees will supervise the entire LOP (excluding the 3×3 stages).

All that’s left is to meet in Cahors for the 3×3, on the weekend of September 27-28
