After several weeks of discussions, the decision on the fate of the Regional Cup and the French Masters Championship has been made. Dominique Ruaux, President of the National Underwater Hockey Commission, tells us about the decisions taken concerning these two competitions originally scheduled for the weekend of 22-23 January.

It is official, the Regions’ Cup will not take place on its original date. This decision follows the lack of registered teams (2 in the men’s category). This is not a new problem that Dominique Ruaux regrets. « I think that one of the reasons for the lack of commitment to the Regions’ Cup is that it is too early in the year. The regions don’t have time to create a team. » The regions and their presidents will therefore have another opportunity to show their interest in this one-day competition.

A new deadline in June ?

According to the CNHS president, it is not possible to organise the Regions’ Cup independently of another competition. « We have a budget line that has been established in our provisional budget for each competition. I can’t add an extra budget line. » For Dominique Ruaux, the solution could be to add it to the D4 scheduled for June. « The players who play in the Regions’ Cup are not the same as in the D4. »

A modified Masters championship

The Centre Aqualudique de la Loue will be well occupied by hockey players on 22 and 23 January 2022. Ten Masters teams will be present to compete for national supremacy in the category. An eleventh team is also set to join the competition. « The grid is still waiting for this eleventh team but it will be done at the end of the week« , Dominique Ruaux said. He also adds that the match modalities will be adapted to give more rest time to the teams. « It will be 2×12 and I think we will increase the half-time to 3 minutes and the inter-match to 5 minutes« .
