The first day of the 6th World Age Group World Championship got underway on Saturday, and the first results are in. What was the court truth in Kuala Lumpur?
U19 M : Four teams have already played two matches in the U19 men’s category (France, Australia, Great Britain and Colombia), and it was the French team that came out on top, winning both games (4-0 against Great Britain and 1-0 against Australia). Turkey takes provisional second place in the rankings despite playing just one match, but the Turkish team came away with an 11-0 victory over the USA. New Zealand is the third and final nation to remain unbeaten on the opening day, defeating South Africa 7-1. Lastly, Colombia will have to get off to a better start after losing their first two matches. Results are already essential on the second day.
U 19 W : Australia won their first two matches (3-0 against Colombia and 6-0 against France) to take the lead after showing some excellent hockey on the opening day. The Aussies got off to a perfect start to the first day. Behind them, New Zealand played just one match, but are provisionally second in the overall standings after beating South Africa 4-0. Proof of the category’s homogeneity, all the other teams have already lost a match. We can’t wait for tomorrow to follow the rest of the competition, as anything is possible, especially with the double round robin.
U 24 M : A full house for New Zealand, who won their first two matches (21-0 against Poland and 5-0 against Great Britain), taking the lead on points with South Africa, who also managed two wins in two matches (5-1 against Turkey, 14-0 against Poland). Behind them, Australia and France follow with a win and a draw. Round two tomorrow, with teams like Colombia and Spain already needing a clean sheet to climb the standings.
U 24 W: New Zealand marks its territory as the only team to win both its matches ( 22-0 against Malaysia and 4-3 against France) on this first day. Remake of the Sheffield final in 2019, the UWHnews team advises you to watch the replay of the match between the Kiwis and the French. Behind the Blacks, Australia and Colombia showed that they’ll be a competitor for the title with a win and a draw. Turkey are also unbeaten after winning their only match of the day 4-1 against the USA.
