Success of the Dutch Open Ladies

On Saturday, March 23, the Zeist swimming pool in the Netherlands hosted the first edition of the Dutch Open Ladies, an all-women’s tournament organized by the Dutch Underwater Hockey Federation. Eight women’s teams from different nationalities gathered to participate in the Dutch Open Ladies.

Team Lila, composed of Belgian and Dutch players, clinched the gold medal in this inaugural edition; the second place was earned by SCFHS, representing Spain and Catalonia, while OSCD secured the bronze medal.

In addition to the competition held on Saturday, the teams had the mission to immortalize the day with a rather unique and fun photo session!

Sunday, March 24, featured swimming and hockey training sessions, strengthening the skills and bonds among the players. In line with the goal of strengthening the bonds among the players, the weekend ended with a « potluck, » a series of matches formed by random teams, allowing the players to share their playing experiences.

Similar to the 100% women’s tournament organized by the Rennes club, the Dutch Open Ladies further demonstrate a commitment to reignite the enthusiasm of Dutch female players and develop women’s sports, particularly underwater hockey. One of the organizers of the Dutch Open Ladies, Iliana Bazelmans, said:

« In the last few years, the number women teams in the Netherlands has decreased. There are less women who play or want to participate at the women’s games compared to a few years ago. »

In conclusion, the Dutch Open Ladies is not just a competition-focused tournament but rather represents the commitment it embodies.
