Initially scheduled from 30 July to 6 August and then from 23 to 30 July in Ankara, the competition between national teams, known as the “World Cup”, has now been cancelled.
The CMAS and the Turkish federation have decided. “Due to the lack of interest from the nations, the World Cup is cancelled“, said Turkish vice-president Levent Uzucal in a statement.
However, the TSSF (Turkish federation) is still planning to hold a competition on the scheduled dates by linking the “World Cup” with another tournament. “We, the Turkish federation with METU-Middle East Technical University, have decided to combine the 18th TRADITIONAL UWH TOURNAMENT with the World Cup […]. In this way, the World Cup will also be open to clubs.”
The 18th traditional UWH tournament is the 18th edition of an annual underwater hockey tournament sponsored by METU Middle East Technical University. This year’s competition could therefore welcome clubs and national teams from around the world.
This is yet another twist and we wonder if it will be the last, as this competition has been evolving for months.
